Late morning and the sun has risen just high enough to shine down into the gorge in everchanging rays of light. The playful twitter of two birds and the sound of the river,
both being amplified between the gorge walls.
Suddenly, I spot a group of backlit ferns on the other side of the river.
The thin ray of light highlight the ferns through a canopy of leaves and trees.

Populus Koreana

]]>Korean poplars are large deciduous trees, 30-60 m. tall, with leaves and a rounded base, pointed apex, and a whitish, waxy coating on the underside of the leaf. The latter distinguish them from most other poplars. The name is derived from the pleasant balsam smell of the opening buds and leaves in spring, produced by a sticky gum on the buds which also helps protect the buds from insect damage.
